Change field names

I have Act! version 10 for Real Estate. Been using Act! since its inception version 6 performed best for me version 10 running OK but very very slow. Upgraded ram but no help. In addition to contacts I want to create a database for my dvds and cds. Would like to be able to change field names such as "Contacts" to "Film Title" without changing anything else such as look up parameters. Any help would be appreciated. Bill

Re: Change field names

Because of the way the links to Companies and Groups are defined, you shouldn't change the core fields in ACT!

You can change the display by editing the Layouts, but lookups and other functions will still use the original names

Re: Change field names

There are some good tips to try in this ACT! Knowledge Base article - http://tinyurl.com/2br2hs

For additional info:
What OS?
How much RAM?
What speed Hard Disk (in RPM)? For this you usually need to find the model of the drive and google it
Network shared or local? If network, how many users?
How many contacts?
What exact version of ACT! (from Help | About)?

Re: Change field names

Read another of your replys to speed issue and changed page file size from 1524 to 3048. This did seem to speed up a bit. Windows XP 2 gigs ram Act! 10.0.1.199 1800 contacts LAN usually one user sometimes two, wireless for second I just installed HP mediasmart home server Thanks Bill

Re: Change field names

With 2GB RAM, I'd make it 4GB swap file

To do this properly:
Remove the Swap File completely
Reboot
Defrag (do this twice or even three times)
Create the 4GB swap file
Reboot

This way, it has the best chance of creating a contiguous page file, which is much better

Is the server also a user machine?

But, how about the other questions?

7200 rpm hard drive Server is stand alone "headless" Not sure what other info you need. Really appreciate your help. You out of Australia? Will follow your advice on swap file.

Re: Change field names

7200rpm should be ok... anything slower has a real impact on ACT! speed

Also check the Knowledge Base article I posted
