Can't Create New Templates or Write Old ones ... Act! 2013 Word 2010

Act! 2013 SP1

Office 2010

Windows 7

When creating a document from a template, just brings up a blank Word

When selecting to create a new template, returns this error:

---------------------------
Sage ACT!
---------------------------
could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80030002 (STG_E_FILENOTFOUND))
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This KB has the same error on opening Act! - http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28752
None of the fixes made any difference

Hi Mike,
Have you tried any of the other usual suspects?

  • Run as admin.
  • Re-register redemption.dll.
  • Check A/V Firewall.
  • Office repairs.

Re: Can't Create New Templates or Write Old ones ... Act! 2013 Word 2010

Have done all that, no change...

Using a template just gets a blank Word doc.

Trying to crate a template gets the error

Any other suggestions?

In LogViewer, there is this error when I try to create a new template:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80030002): could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80030002 (STG_E_FILENOTFOUND)) at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass.get_CommandBars() at Act.UI.WordProcessor.MSWordProcessorManager.AttachWordCommandBarClickHandlers(ApplicationClass wordApp) at Act.Framework.MailMerge.MSWordMailMergeManager.get_WordApp() at Act.UI.WordProcessor.MSWordProcessorManager.CreateNewTemplate() at Act.UI.Correspondence.UICorrespondenceManager.CreateNewTemplate() at Act.UI.Correspondence.UICorrespondenceManager.CommandHandler(String commandId)

Hi Mike,
I would suggest you call our tech support team for help with this issue, as it will likely need further investigation by a technician.

I assume that you've checked this but I didn't see it listed. Have you verified that the ACT! macros in Word are enabled?

Yup, checked that, Roy ...

The only odd thing I found from the user was that their IT had installed Office 2013. Then, after finding out that the version of Act! wouldn't connect, uninstalled it and installed the earlier version ... Not sure if that's causing this issue?

I suspect what they did was install Office 2013 using the Click-To-Run installer (it's really difficult to get a copy of the stand alone installer for Office 2013 now) and then they uninstalled it and installed Office 2010 so it still had the residual registry entries from the Office 2013 install.

I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure that it will work but Microsoft has developed an uninstaller for the various versions of Office that will rip it out by the roots.  I've used the uninstaller and it removes the registry keys too so it will probably solve the problem.  It does take a while to run though.  If I were them I would use that uninstaller and then use the stand alone Office 2013 installer (if you need a copy let me know and I'll put one somewhere you can download it) and put Office 2013 back on instead of putting the older version on.

The Office Uninstaller Fix It Tool can be found at the following link.
