Calendar has worked fine until now. I tried to cancel some smart tasks I had running, and now when I attempt to access the calendar I get a message that "ACT has detected a failure, please close program". The check and re-index tool says that everything is fine.
Can anyone help? I need my calendar.

Try deleting your preferences. You can do it with the latest version of actdiag which you can find in the ACT! knowledgebase. Before you try that try repairing ACT! from the Tools | Maintenance menu.
