Backup size growing very fast

We are using ACT! by Sage Premium 2010 Version 12.0.409.0, Hotfix 3 and I have scheduled maintenance and backups to run every night. I have noticed that the backup sizes are growing much faster than was the case in ACT! 2009 Premium. Is this normal with the new version?

Within a 10 day period my backups went from 1.33Gb to 1.70Gb.

Database Information (under Help/About ACT/Database Information)

Database Size (MB):

Database      Resv - 484.19     Used - 466.38

TranLog        Resv 2248.62      Used 2051.01

No, nothing unusually large. The size of all the attachments added within that 10 day period is about 26.7 MB.

Check the backup folder in your database files, you'll likely find a number of BAK files in there. They are temp files and can be removed.

Re: Backup size growing very fast

I checked that already - nothing in the backup folder.

I feel this has something to do with the log file - the .ALF file is 2.19GB, while the .ADF file is 484MB.

Why would the ALF file size grow so much? What can I do to reduce its size? What can I do to stop it from growing so fast?

Re: Backup size growing very fast

Have you check the backup folder as suggested Roy Laudenslager? The location of the folder is <databasename>-database files/Backup.

My problem back in 2009 was eventually solved with the help of the ACT Technical Support team. I believe they had me restore a backup since the log files were causing the backup size to grow. After restoring the backup, the problem went away since a new ALF file was created.
