Backup does not include database (ADF) file

I am trying to run a backup and the zip file that is created contains the attachments and the folder structure but it does not include the actual database file (ADF). This same thing happens when I run the backup from my workstation or on the server itself. On the workstation I have a network drive setup (not using UNC path) to access ACT. I am running ACT 2008 Premium. I have 3 seperate databases and this happens to all 3 of them. Including the database files and the attachments, one of them is under 60MB, one is under 100MB, and the other is much larger at about 6GB (the ADF is about 450MB).

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on how to fix this.

Thanks

Re: Backup does not include database (ADF) file

In the ZIP file, it's in the folder: Share\MachineName\DatabaseName-database files\Backup

There are a number of BAK files, which is a SQL backup.

It's a good idea to occasionally do a test restore (Restore_As with a different name) to ensure the backup is ok

Re: Backup does not include database (ADF) file

I believe that you will find that if you restore the backup file with the ACT! program, the ADF will be restored. The ACT! backup is a compressed file using ZIP technology but it is a proprietary internal structure and can't simple be expanded with Winzip to get the database files.

That makes sense. I just wanted me make sure my information would be there if I ever needed it. Thanks Roy.

Re: Backup does not include database (ADF) file

The ACT! database alf & adf file is attached to SQL Server and can not be backed up by external backup utilities or applications, unless you stop this service.

You will have to use the internal ACT backup utility and zip the database to a local drive, or external drive.

I run two backups, one for ACT and one for everything else, because ACT must create it's own zip backup.

Good  Luck
