Automatic assignment of Contacts to companies when importing

Act! Premium Version 17

Windows 7 Professional

Local database (not server)



I have two Excel spread sheets extracted from a MS Access database. One is Companies and one is Contacts. There is a common field in both called ‘Company’ - the text in these fields matches exactly, for example "Koala Ltd" in Companies = "Koala Ltd" in Contacts.

When I import these files into act!, I get the data from both but there is no automatic assignment of the Contact to the Company. I seems that I have to manually go all contact records and assign the company - but there are thousands of records. The act! user information and Help files implies that this is done automatically. Can I make this happen?

  1. 19369 Understanding the Company Linking Preferences - (This option is now under Admin, Select Company Preferences > then change the number to the threshold you would like. This will automatically create the companies for current contacts and future imports.)
