Attachments remain after contact is deleted

Hi,

when I delete a contact with attached documents (or histories with files/links attached) the files will remain on the server in the "Attachments"-folder. Is there a way to remove the files that belong to no longer existing contacts?

I noticed and reported this back in Act! 2011 I believe, but it probably has been like this since Act! 2005.

Re: Attachments remain after contact is deleted

Woul anyone from Swiftpage ACT! like to chime in on this?

My attachments folder is 3.6GB, consisiting of about 25,000 files - mostly email attachments. I would like to clean this up but I haven't actually found a way to reduce this bloat. One would think, deleting a contact record would delete all associated attachments as well.... no?

Looking forward to yorur thoughts and suggestion.

Kind Regards,

A Check & Repair in Actdiag is supposed to delete them.  Give it a try and report back.

Nope.

I've tried this in the past as well. Herein lies the problem - it's not working as expected. I have thousands of orphaned attachments - mostly emails from contacts that no longer exist.

Act! Technical Support has a tool that will delete them.  I didn't see it posted in an article in the Knowledge Base but if you have a support contract you can call them and get them to do it.  If not you can sign up for a 30 day support contract for $40 and get them to do it.
