Attach several PDF document shortcuts to contacts

We have over 20000 contacts in our Act database, we need to attach a shortcut to a separate PDF file for each contact. The PDF files are in a network shared folder and are named with the policy number that corresponds to the policy number contained in the act database. Is there a way to do this in batches as it will take a lot of time to do this individually.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Attach several PDF document shortcuts to contacts

Within the Act! program you can only attach documents/shortcuts individually.  I'm not aware of any add-ons that will perform the function for you, hopefully someone else will.

If you wanted to attach the document (opposed to a shortcut), you could open the folder containing the documents and drag/drop them onto the appropriate contact's Document tab.  This would reduce the number of keystrokes required...

Andrew,

We could produce a custom add-on that would enable you to do this.

Some questions:

Is this a one of situation to attach a shortcut to a large number of existing documents but for the future to be attached as they are created?

Is the creation of the policy and placement into a folder being  done by people who have access to ACT! at the time or can anyone, irrespective of having ACT!, create a policy?
