Activity Report is Broken

ACT! by Sage Premium 2010 Version 12.0.409.0, Hotfix 3
English (United Kingdom)

 

To reporoduceSmiley Very Happyemo database

 

Create a new contact.

Create a Meeting, Call and To-Do for today

Run the Activity Report filtering on current contact. All activity filters checked.

 

Result. 3 Activities shown as expected.

 

Run the report again, but uncheck any one of the activity types.

Result. No Activities shown.

Based on the information provided, your issue appears to be associated with a previously reported issue.

As many of these reports have not changed in the last 10 years, I'm wondering when we can expect a fix for this previously reported issue?

 

If the standard reports straight out of the box don't work it doesn't fill you with confidence.

 

Suggest you either fix it or remove it ;-)

From my work with the reports I don't think this is a problem with the report itself but with the data source module in the report. The report engine will build the report provided the data is extracted from the database by the data source module.

A bit on ACT! reports.The underlying report engine that actually compiles and formats the report is a module purchased or licensed by Sage. The report engine requires a human interface for template creating and editing and connection to the database..I don't know who did the actual programming for the human interface for ACT! 7 but my understanding is that Sage now controls the maintenance and enhancement of the human interface. I've actually been able to go beyond the ACT! report editor and make use of additional capabilities of the report engine by directly editing the XML code of the report template. Unfortunately that is mainly limited to formatting because I can't modify the data source module in the report.

 

From your description of your problem it sounds like a filtering failure in the data source module so Sage would need to provide the fix.

Having played around a little more, it appears that if you uncheck everything then recheck just Meetings, the report runs correctly.

That would definitely be a Sage problem to fix.

I noticed this problem yesterday. However today everything seems to be fine. It should not be this inconsistent.  I am also noticing the the "include cleared activities" checkbox seems to be broken. If you check it, it will show you ONLY cleared activities instead of including them into the report. 

 

Sorry for digging up such an old post. But I wanted to chime in.
