Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

I am running 2010 ver 12.1.181.0 Hotfix 1. Have been using Act since mid 80's when Act was DOS based.

I have the same issue as described by others with/without SP 1 installed.  If I create an activity in the opportunity detail view either from the activities tab or the "followup" link on the contact tab, the activity is not saved to the opportunity activities tab and has to be linked manually by going to the contact the activity was scheduled "with" and linkng to the opportunity. This is very time consuming, since I spend 90% of my time in the opportunity detail screen. SP1 description states this problem has been fixed, but not so. In addition, if the activity is scheduled using the activity button at the top of the opportunity detail screen or the "activities" tab, it creates an activity for every contact linked to the opportunity. This means that if I have 5 contacts linked to the opportunity, I have to go to 5 contact screens and relink each activity back to the opportunity. Pain in the rear.

Separate issue - unable to create a subreport on a report which includes opportunity notes and opportunity history -

Great idea to have note/activities/history available to opportunities, but useless if not working properly and cannot create a report with that information. This was the main reason I upgraded to this version of ACT as 2010 promised to make "opportunities" behave like "contacts".

Re: Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

For other ACT users needing to print opportunity notes on a report until the fix is available, I created my own "workaround" until a fix is available . I created a memo field in the opportunity detail screen with history enabled. UseCtrl-Enter to add new "notes" at the beginning of the memo. Changes are recorded in the opp history.  This field can then be included in an opportunity subreport to be printed.

Re: Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

time in sa..,

Check this out incase your running ACT with multiple window views, see my Subject "Create new Opportunity for a Contact record has no Association "

http://community.act.com/sage/board/message?board.id=Prem&message.id=14742#M14742

If it helps click on Kudos to bump up the need to resolve this issue with multipe views set.

I have Premium 12.0 SP-1 installed and I was able to create Activity within an opportunity and see it in my Task list associated to the record.

I found the steps and ACT setup that kills the chance of creating multiple new Opportunity records who's detail view no longer showing / adding in Association area of layout the Contact name in the tree.

I setup in ACT! Preferences> Startup Tab> Views> Checked the box "Open each view in its own window".  Having Contact, Company, Group, Opportunity Details windows as well as Contact and Oppt Lists windows open across ACT! over two display's.

I now know I can create multiple new Oppt. records with the Contact name in Association, as long as I DON'T close the Oppt. Detail window.  If I did close it I have to close DB and reopen it then from Contact Detail I can create many new Oppt. records.  The other option is don't have Multiple Table windows open.

Re: Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

thanks, Jim

I don't use have multiple windows. The situation you described is not exactly the problem I have. An activity created in the opportunity detail screen will show up in the contact screen under the activity tab, but it does not show up under the activity tab in the opportunity detail screen. Have to manually "reassociate" activity created in the opportunity screen to the opportunity every time.

Anyone not having this problem or know a solution?

Re: Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

MY OWN WORKAROUND TO THE PROBLEM

I just found the condition that causes activity to lose assoc with the opportunity when scheduled in the opportunity screen - if scheduling is set to create separate activities when scheduling with multiple contacts, the association is lost. Fix until Act gets a fix is to uncheck the box in scheduling preferences.

Hopefully, this problem will be addressed in the next hotfix.

Re: Activity Created in Opportunity not automatically linked to Opportunity

I am also having a similar problem but with Act 2011 Premium (13.1.111.0, Hot Fix 4).  Difference between my issue and what seems to be commonly mentioned is that the Activity association to Opportunities works fine when directly connected to the main database, but not when using a remote/sync database.

Is there any hotfix available to fix this problem?
