Act ST installs as EX

We have Act for Web Premium Standard and have installed on a server and client stations. The client stations all state it is ST version but the SQL server instance it has created is SQL Express. Did we miss something in the installation, there didn't seem to be an option to install SQL Standard?

Note although we have installed Act For Web so far we are only using the client-server version, the web bits will be rolled out for remote users in a later phase.

I have posted a few other errors and problems here and I wonder if any of them might be caused by the fact we have ACT ST clients connecting to a SQL/ACT EX server...but as above the server install wizard didn't appear to give an option to do standard SQL.

Re: Act ST installs as EX

I think we've solved this - it seems we do only have the EX CDs. The source of the confusion comes from earlier discussions with the retailer when we were discussing requirements - we'll have at least 30 users once it's fully rolled out, which it was explained would necessitate the Premium version, and we assumed this was a Standard SQL version. And the client install definitely say ST in the Help DB info.

Thanks for all the help anyway. We're going to try to re-install it on SQL Standard anyway (using the knowledgebase instructions - thanks for the link), to see if it gets rid of the various error messages we don't seem to be able to get rid of.

Re: Act ST installs as EX

SQL only installs as ST on a server operating system (Windows 2003/2008). It installs EX when on XP or Vista.

There is also no difference at all in ACT! between EX and ST.... just the version of SQL.

Thanks for the reply Mike - however it is installed on Windows server 2003, but still installed an EX rather than ST version...

Re: Act ST installs as EX

There are two versions of ACT! Premium for Web 2009.  One is called ACT! Premium for Web 2009 EX, the other is called ACT! Premium for Web 2009 ST.

Both versions ship on 2 CD's, with the difference between EX and ST is the CD Browser on CD#2 of the Premium ST version contains a line item install for SQL 2005 Standard, CD#2 for Premium EX does NOT.

On a server class operating system, when you insert CD#1 of Premium ST, you will get a prompt asking to insert CD#2 if you wish to install SQL 2005 Standard Edition.  If you say No, the install will continue but the version of SQL installed will be SQL Express.

I believe there is a pretty good cost difference between these 2 editions, as the Premium ST version includes the SQL 2005 license.

Are you certain that you purchased ACT! Premium for Web 2009 Premium ST?

This functionality is true for ACT! Premium for Web 2007 and 2008 Premium ST as well.

thanks,

-Matt

Search the knowledgebase for answer id: 21440, which outlines the process.  It also links to answer id: 19231

Hope that helps...

Re: Act ST installs as EX

Hi Matthew - we have ACT Premium 2008 rather than 2009. It came on 2 CDs, one is titled Sage 50 ACT Premium 2008 (v10.01), the other is titled Sage 50 ACT Premium for Web 2008.

It doesn't seem to matter which one we put in first, we don't get presented with an option for Standard SQL Server...
