Act Program disappears shortly after install

We just upgraded to Act! Premiumv20 and I've had two instances where after installing and successfully syncing two laptops, the Act program disappears.  All of the files are there, however the Act icons are gone and it's not accessible from the start menu.  One the first laptop I was able to uninstall and reinstall the program, but on this second computer Act! wasn't even listed under Control Panel/Programs so I tried reinstalling it and it throws an error saying "This version of Act! has already been installed".

I'm at a complete loss if I can't uninstall the program and all of its components.  I'm wondering if there is a way to simply restore the program?  Please help!

Re: Act Program disappears shortly after install

I always try a reboot and then see where the pc stands.

If not in Control Panel:

19338 How to Use the Act! Uninstaller.exe Utility
http://kb.act.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19338/kw/uninstall%20act

or in Manually removing Act! section of:

38874 How to manually remove Act! Pro or Premium v20

Re: Act Program disappears shortly after install

Thanks for your reply.  I am working on the manual uninstall (KB 38875) and it's not letting me delete any of the assembly files that are left stating they're being used by other applications.  I'm afraid to move on to the post-uninstallation tasks before making sure those are gone.  Does anyone know how to get around that?

Guessing, but in Task Manager stop any process concerning Act!
Like webapi.  Also in Services.msc the SQL servers

They were all previously stopped.  I tried a reboot and also realized I still had some files on the C drive that I deleted, but still having the same problem.

Re: Act Program disappears shortly after install

I am not sure but maybe the assembly folder contains stuff for IIS and .net framework?
I noticed you referenced Act for Web.  Maybe some of internet pool stuff is running.
If your final goal is to install Act again,it may not be really critical to remove those to avoid the msg Act! is already installed.

Ok thanks.  I do need to reinstall Act so I will try moving on from that step and see where it gets me.  Thanks for your help!

In a bind, there are also free program uninstallers online for computers.  Of course got to use caution.  Usually the top 3-5 google searched ones are ok.

The manual uninstall worked, even though I wasn't able to remove all the files it wanted me to towards the end.  Thanks for your help!

Hi Amanda,

You might want to use this powerful uninstaller we have used and recommended for years...
