Act Premium Cloud - Auto number

Hello all

I have a client who will be signing up to Act premium Cloud soon and they require the functionality for every new opportunity raised to have a new auto number generated. Basically what exponencials auto number generator add on does but will work with the cloud version.

 

I can't find an add on out there for this and can't see anywhere in connect or using zapier where this can be done. 

 

Does anyone know of anything readily available or any developers that are working on building add ons for Act Cloud?

Hi Rob,

Only services that connect through the web API can be used to extend the functionality of Act Premium Cloud. I don't believe a service that provides opportunity numbering has been created yet. It would not be possible to do this using Zapier.
It would be worth reaching out to some of the developers on the Community to enquire about the creation of such a service.

Rob,

As Gary advised, it isn't something currently supported by the native Act! web API. What is required is support for web-hooks, even then it would need to be specific to the action wanting to be performed, edit a contact for example. So while the web API for Act! brings integration opportunities for the Act! community it is limited by the depth and breadth of development of the web API, in general, traditional API development is based on customer demand. It is a continuum, new APIs don't start out life as being anywhere near complete. Servicing the the popular requirements is catered to first and like any development, companies need to find resource and budget to extend APIs.. So APIs are very much a 'work in progress' beast.

Act! Premium Cloud (APC), is an option offered by Swiftpage which caters to a particular sector of the market that is not requiring all the bells and whistles that need to be serviced by on-premise installations of Act!. So APC has convenience and customers can move in and out of it without need for infrastructure, but it comes at a price, lack of flexibility. If your customer is needing auto number generation for Act! Premium for Web we can build it, but there are some questions to ask your client.

  1. When would they see a number being generated, for instance, each time a contact was created or when a set of conditions was met, such as when ID /Status changed to  customer, etc?
  2. Can the customer handle a delay in the number appearing in Act!, this is to allow for polling to happen?
  3. Or does the customer want a number to be generated on the push of a button, selecting a menu item  in Act! Premium for Web?

Graeme - Did you ever build an Auto-Numbering component that can sit on a server and number records (Contact/Opportunity etc) that are newly created via browser (APFW)?

Thank you Graeme. In my case we would need a sequential/unique reference number created within an opportunity field at the point when the new opportunity is created. Ideally, the number would present itself to the User immediately upon creation of the Opportunity, but If there were some latency in the proces (probably less than a minute) this would perhaps be acceptable.

We can do what you want.

The issue about polling is relevant , there would be less latency the more frequent the polling, however more frequent polling would mean more loading. Polling every 15 seconds would be practical. If your customer has interest in our developing that you can email support@xactsoftware.co.nz
