Act Mail Merge Closing Act & Outlook

Act Premium Version 17.1.169.0. Hot Fix 3 (2014)

Outlook 2013

Shared database

Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard

We recently upgraded our server and ever since have not been able to send mail merges out successfully. Previous to the upgrade we could do mail merges up to 95 and after that it would then have problems. That was fine but now we can't do a mail merge over 5 contacts. Over 5 it will close Outlook and it will usually leave some in the drafts. I just tried a mail merge today with 23 contacts and it got 3 sent and after that ACT closed and Outlook closed. I've tried using both the ACT template and the Microsoft Word template and both are unsuccessful. I've checked the Outbox and Drafts folders to make sure nothing is in them that could be hanging it up and that is not the problem. I can't seem to find the exact same problem on the forums that I am having and my tech support team can't get in touch with ACT. Mail merges are extremely important and now our process is very cumbersome since this update. I'm looking for any solutions or things I can try to fix the issue or at last resort any other services to send bulk emails (under 100 at a time) that will work with our ACT database.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and offer any help.

Re: Act Mail Merge Closing Act & Outlook

Are you doing the merge on the server or on a workstation?
Is there any errors at the time of a crash in the Windows Event Log?

Another solution might be to use Act! emarketing ...

You should have up to 500 contacts as per:
http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38098

You should also update to 17.2 for some additional functionality as per:

Here are the two events that were logged during the last crash. Only ACT crashed this time but it crashed after 3 emails again so Outlook may not of even had a chance to crash this time. Also see the screenshots of the ACT error also. Yes it's on a server.azt crash.JPGaxct crash 2.JPG

Re: Act Mail Merge Closing Act & Outlook

Now I'm trying to do emails one at a time and having problems. I was able to send 3 emails and then ACT crashed on the fourth. Now every time I try to send an email from a template in ACT it crashes. Here are the errors:act crash 1 email at a time.JPGact crash 1 email at a time 2.JPG

Re: Act Mail Merge Closing Act & Outlook

I have tried the link http://kb.swiftpage.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37786  several times. It brings me to the knowledgbase screen and prompts me to login. It give me this error below so I am unable to access the information from the link. Does anyone know why I can't access it or can copy the information and paste in this thread for me?

Solution:
Note: The following steps will need to be performed on the machine where the database files are stored.

    1. Browse to the folder where your database resides.

Note:

The default location for the database is C:\Users\[username]\Documents\ACT\ACT Data\Databases

  1. Right click the folder named [database name]-database files, then choose Properties
  2. Click the Security tab, then click Edit...
  3. Select Everyone under Group or user names
  4. Check the box under the Allow column for Full control under Permissions for Everyone
  5. Click OK
  6. Attempt to Mail Merge again to test

If this does not fix the issue, please contact Swiftpage Support for more troubleshooting at 1-877-902-0597. An active support plan is necessary to provide service.

Hope this helps,
