Act! Insight web api error accessing APFW site externally from Internet

Fresh installation of Act! 22.0.205 update 4 on Windows Server 2016. Went through all configurations (including adding database to site administration). Firewalls and bindings all configured.

 

Logging into http://localhost/apfw locally works perfectly. Insight works and no error.

 

Logging into https://ourdomain.com/apfw from external Internet shows Insight error "The Act! Web API was unable to authenticate the login credentials provided or this database". Tried both http and https versions, same results. Other parts of the app (contacts etc) work normally.

 

Accessing http://localhost/act.web.api locally brings up the api page. Tested api/swagger works.

 

Accessing https://ourdomain.com/act.web.api from external Internet also brings up the api page. Tested api/swagger works. Did notice the documentation page still mention localhost (not sure if this matters).

 

So basically our installation works internally including the web api, but externally insight web api shows authentication error (though other parts of the app works fine). 

 

Any advice on how to fix this issue would be appreciated.

Found the cause of the issue. During the initial testing/deployment I used a self-signed SSL certificate before importing in a CA-issued certificate. It appears that the Act! web API does not work with the untrusted/self-signed certificate. Once the CA certificate was installed, the error message went away.
