Just placed a Windows7 64-bit user. Installed ACT 2008 and it is not launching.
Error: The type initializer for 'Protexis._' threw an exception.
I am learning that v2008 is not "supported" for Windows 7. That's nice. Yet, I still need this working without writing a check for another $10,000 or whatever the update to 2010 would take. What's a more feasible option??
Regards,
Dan

Your options are limited. While ACT! 2008 isn't supported on Windows 7, in my experience it will run on Windows 7 32-bit. One option would b to uninstall the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and install the 32-bit version. However if you have also upgradec to Office 2010 you have no option except to upgrade to ACT! 2011.
By the way, do you have upwards of 50 licenses for ACT! 2008? Your figure of $10.000 for an upgrade cost would indicate you have that many licenses.

Hello Dan,
ACT! 2008 will not work on a 64-bit operating system. 64-bit support was not added until ACT! 2009. Also, while ACT! 2008 does not officially support Windows 7, we have have had a number of users install and use it successfully on Windows 7 32-bit systems. In regards to the Protexis error you are receiving, please see KB Article 21550 for more information.

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.
