This morning I installed Office 2016 64bit and Act! 19.1.63.0.Update 2 and when I attempted a mail merge from Act! to Word, I received following error:
Unable to cast COM object of type
'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass' to interface type
'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word._Application'. This operation failed
because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the
interface with IID '{00020970-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due
to the following error: Error loading type library/DLL. (Exception from
HRESULT: 0X80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)).
Word is Version 1704 (Build 8067.2032 Click-to-Run)
First Release for Current Channel (Office Insider Slow)
Windows is Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, Version 1703, OS Build 16179.1000
Machine is Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHZ
Ram is 32.0 GB
System Type is 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.
Not sure what else I can tell you other than, it didn't work. I would like for it to work. Does it work for anyone else? What's the trick?
Thanks!
Ed

Hi beb-jdcpa,
Please try the following steps:

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply. I've tried what you have suggested and it hasn't worked for my PC. However.... Word 2016 64 bit and Act! 19.1.63.0 Update 3 works on my iMac under Parallels. ??? I can mail-merge letters and other documents from that platform but not a native PC?
Could there be something else I should try?
Thanks!
Ed

If you have not tried this already run both as administrator and see if this clears the error.

Hey Chip,
Thanks for the reply,
I've tried both as Admin and this doesn't clear it out, either. I've uninstalled Office using the Microsoft uninstall from the page referenced by Doug in his post and the reinstall of Office is taking forever at this point.
Will report back my findings, it could be that the remnants of Office 2010 or 2013 installs were confusing things on the PC whereas the Mac did not have any prior install of Office other than the CTR 2016.
Thanks for your help!

Was this a clean installation of ACT or an upgrade from a previous version?

This was an install on a machine that has had Act! on it back to 2012 and Office back to the old "you can actually buy it" days. I have uninstalled Act! using the uninstaller provided in the knowledgebase and I've uninstalled Office using the uninstaller in the post above. Currently the machine is attempting to reinstall Office 2016 64bit and is doing so Very Slowly. I suspect something is amiss with the machine's registry. If this doesn't work, I'll start over with a clean drive as it is taking more time to make this work than it will save by just starting with a clean drive.

The reason for my question was to suggest the ACT uninstaller.exe app but as you have used this I agree a new windows installation may be the answer.
Good luck.

It works! Word 2016 64 and Act! 19 do work together on my machines (iMac running Windows 10 Pro 64bit on Parallels and PC running Windows 10 Pro 64bit). Everything is snappier.
The process basically involved the steps outlined above and yes, on my PC, I did have to begin with a clean install of everything, so there's a remnant of some program or entry in the registry on older machines that somehow gets in the way of making Act! mail merge work with Word 2016 64bit.
I have not tested this with Outlook or Excel.
Thanks for all the help and hard work programming to get this to happen!
