With the release of service pack 2 version 18, Act! no longer writes changed history information from Opportunities to the associated Contact history table. The consequence of that is customers dependent on sales reporting for sales process cannot apply service pack 2 without detrimentally affecting sales reporting, depending on the nature of the reporting. So those customers who have been hanging out to apply service pack 2 to fix a host of areas in Act! Premium for Web are denied improvements that they rightfully should have received as paying customers as part of service pack 2.

There is only one history table in the ACT! database. Evidently there aren't linking entries being made in the contact history table to point to the history entries. As to reporting, using Durkin Impact reports I can make the necessary joins for the report query to list the opportunity histories to the contacts.

I agree. I mainly wanted to note that the information was available in another way.

Open the demo database under 18.2 and change the stage of an opportunity and you will find that it does not write the change to the associated contact record(s) history. In 18.1 it did write to the associated contact(s) history. It has previously been advised directly in an email to the Act! QA 'team'.

It appears that the software is currently working as designed. The change was made around v18.1 to combat a potential data integrity issue that could occur.
The defect serves as a request to revisit this decision and find a solution to reinstate the behaviour. It's currently logged at a medium priority, but no timeframe is indicated.
It's worth noting, there is a free addon available from a third-party which links opportunity history records with those contacts linked to the opportunity - OppHistory4Act!
