ACT2011 layout problem

We are updating from ACT!2008 to 2011.

We run ACT2008 on a virtual server so we took a snapshot of it and created a new virtual server. We then applied the update to the new server in order to test it without causing problems for our users.

However the new ACT2011 test server still seems to be pointing to the old server's Layout folder. And, whenever we open ACT2011, it seems to be updating the ACT2008 layouts. This then makes them unusable for our users!

My question is, how do we change the location of the layout folder for our new test server, so we can carry on testing without disrutping users?

Thanks

Re: ACT2011 layout problem

Hi Joe,

 my inclination would be this:

  • On the production VM, do a backup of the database
  • On the production VM, restore that backup using "Restore As" and give it a different name i.e. TEST_<orig_dbname>
  • Take a snapshot
  • On the snapshot, test using TEST_<orig_dbname>

This is just one way of safely testing, likely many others.

Make sure you are not using the old .pad file (it will point to the old database)
