ACT for WEB V20 Phone Format

Just upgraded a client from ACT V18 to 20.

They had a free format for phones where they put in their own spaces. On the server (Client) all is still fine but when looked at via web access all the spaces disappear so phone number is one long string.

Re: ACT for WEB V20 Phone Format

Unfortunately, you are correct that this is a defect in the way Web displays free-form phone numbers.

We have it listed as D-04883, and it's currently open. I don't have any information on a fix timescale, sorry.

The workaround you've suggested is a great idea, but I can appreciate that it's not ideal. Hopefully we'll have more information on a resolution for this defect from the product team soon.

If there's anything we can do to help in the meantime, please let me know

I've observed this too and would be interested to know what SP are going to do about it.

Re: ACT for WEB V20 Phone Format

Hi David

I have found a temporary work around which is to create duplicate Alpha fields for the phone numbers and copy the phone numbers into them.

Not ideal and not an answer but is a short term way of letting the client see the formatting that they have spent the last 2 years creating in the phone number fields.

Yes lets have a response please from Swiftpage for what is looking like a nasty defect.

Thanks Jon

Not sure how this one slipped through the beta testing as it is so obvious or did it slip in with an update?

Just that the client states the formatting was there via web before the upgrade to V20 from V18?

Re: ACT for WEB V20 Phone Format

[ Edited ]

in Germany a area Code can be somewhere between 2(3) like for exsample (0)89

or 4(5) Digits like our area code (0)8282

or areacodes in eastern Germany with 5 (6) digits (0)37421

i.e. BMW Munich 089 382-0

or SAP +49/6227/7-0  (so any number in the areacode beginning with a 7 is a SAP Number)

so a extension can have 1digit  like +49 8282-80040-9

or 2 Digits like                                  +49 8282-80040-91

or 3 Digits like                                  +49 8282-80040-911

or 4 Digits like                                  +49 8282-80040-9111  *

or 5 Digits like                                  +49 8282-80040-91111 *

or 6 Digits like BMW                        +49 89-382-123456

the only rule... the number may not exeed 14 digits including the Country code  so to have Extensionnumbers with 4-6 Digits, you need a smaller main number (like i.e.  BMW or SAP)  numbers like shown above with the * would normaly work inside of Germany, but not from i.e. UK as we do not need to dial the 49

normaly, in act (windows) you can then have a number displayed  like [49]08282 80040-20    [country]areaCode Mainphone- (extension)

this makes it easy for the staff to understand the number.

in act for web... you can only display [49]082828004020  and the problem here is, that nobody will now understand what is the areacode, the main-number and the extension

i did check act20 web, and act13 web, and i could not see any difference in the way how to insert data, and display data.

Re: ACT for WEB V20 Phone Format

Just to clarify, you could edit the phone number field to contain a space using the web version (V18) and it would then retain the space.

Upgrading to V20 lost the spaces in the web version and now you cannot edit and create a space as it is lost immediately.

The client installed version still has the spaces after updating so creating AlhaNumeric fields and copying the phone fields into them is a way of the client seeing the formatting via web again.
