ACT 2010 - Open Document - Can't open exisiting documents

Problem: No obvious way to open an ACT word processing Document.  We upgraded from an earlier ACT version, converted our files, documents, templates, layouts, etc.  To open a converted ACT Document now, I have to click Write / New Document and then say Open and point to the existing Document - That's stupid!!  Can't find any logical way to simply Open an exisiting Document. HELP!!

Hello Tal,

Welcome to the ACT! Online Community. To open a template create with the ACT! Word Processor, first make sure that the ACT! workd processor is set as your default word processor. This is done by going to Tools/Preferences and selecting this option under the Communication tab. To open the template, go to Write/Other Document (from template) from the main menu. You can also design templates in MS Word as well by selecting Word as your default word processor. The types of templates you can view in ACT! depend on which word processor you have chosen. AWP templates have a .tpl file extension and Word templates will have a .adt extension...you can only view one of these file types at a time in ACT!.

Not trying to open a Template, just an ACT Word Processing Document previously created.  Please re-read the original Post.

Re: ACT 2010 - Open Document - Can't open exisiting documents

If the .wpa document is attached under a contact's History or Documents tab, then you can open it from there. Otherwise, you would have to either browse to the location where the document is saved and open it directly; or open it through the ACT! Word Processor interface by using the New or Edit option under the Write menu (this of course would require you having AWP selected as your default word processor). Unfortunately, there is no direct option on the ACT! menu to open a saved AWP file.

If you would like to make a suggestion to add a feature to the software, please post your request on the Share Your Ideas board in this forum.

I really must say that is the dumbest design.  Act lets you create Act word processing documents (.wpa) and then has no way to Open them unless they are attached to a specific contact.  This is the 3rd or 4th feature that used to be in previous Act versions and subsequently removed.  How easy would it be to have an Open Document option on the Write menu?

Thanks for getting back to us all the same, even if it only verified why we couldn't find the functionality.
