custom entities in ACT!

[ Edited ]

Can i create my own entities in ACT! 2012 ? with its own form and table in database and an option to use it in the standard entities (contacts,companies...) for example : lead, customer, affiliate and business unit and more...

does anyone have articles about it?

i found this but it is from 4 years ago:

All custom entities in ACT must be attached to a op level entity such as company, contactm group or opportunity.

Do they use the Grousp in ACT?
You could rename 'Groups' to 'Affilates' in the UI.

Yes, despite the age of the article very much of it is still perfectly relevant.

There are a few examples of custom sub entities on this forum such as this one : http://community.act.com/t5/Sage-ACT-Developer-Downloads/Custom-Sub-Entity-Sample/m-p/307#M1

Re: custom entities in ACT!

thanks mwood, but i don't thing a sub-entity will be enough.

i need to create a full entity that stand on its own, like for example a "Lead" which is not yet a contact (customer) and is not a sub entity of any of the four entities : contact, group, company, opportunity.

or for example: "Affiliate" which is not a contact (customer) but has its own main form and sub tabs - activities,history....

what is usually done in ACT! when my client ask me to add "affiliate" entity (the client affiliates)?

Re: custom entities in ACT!

yes , but i need to create types of groups, each one with its own fields and views

Affiliates

Business units

trading units

thats why i need custom entities....
