I have a strange phenomenon here, with different databases and different systems.
I create a contact, I enter no address data whatsoever. I save the contact. Then I go to listview, and back to detail view, and voila, the Latitude and Longitude are now filled with 33.448377, -112.074037. Always these values, Phoenix, USA.
If I enter correct address data (in the Netherlands, Europe), the same happens. Even if I enter manually the correct coordinates, they are overwritten.
Now I have to use my own, custom latitude/longitude fields.

Peter, you can use Impact Suite (even the free trial) to populate the Latitude and Longitude fields from CSV.
Google provides an API but it is no longer free.
