oFieldDescriptor.Name = "New Name";

I think that will be the display name. You can't change the Column Name.

Can this be done within the application (ACT!)?

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Online Community!

 

To rename a user field (any field) through the application: go to Tools > Define Fields > double click on the desired field > the name can be updated.  Note: Before making changes, it is good practice to create a backup of the database (File > Backup > Database).

When I go there, that field doesn't show up....none of the USER fields show up.

Most likely the field names have already been changed, but the changes are not reflected on the layout.

Click Tools | Design layouts | Contact layout to open the layout

Change the label to reflect the name of the field - which will be clearly visible in the field itself.

Be sure and save your changes.  You may need to close ACT! and reopen before seeing your changes.

thanks for the advice.

 

I just did what you suggested and I still can not edit the field .  The I bar does not want to appera.  The box is showing correctly "date Met" but it still says "user 1".

 

I am in layout designer.  I m sure this will be so easy.

I've changed the field names using the 'Define Fields' however when i list the fileds via database connection the names of the fields are still the old names....

 

i.e. i've changed CONTACT Home Address 1 to CONTACT Type1

 

when i look in the database it still displays the name of the field as Home Address 1

Hello cabscab,

 

When you change a field name through the Act! application you are changing the DisplayName. However, when using a database connection you see the ColumnName (The real column name in the SQL table).

 

You can't change the ColumnName.

 

If you can tell me what you are trying to acheive I may be able to assist further.
