Getting Group 'membership' to show in a tab on Company view

HI,

The ability to view Group memberships via the tab when looking in the Contacts view is really useful.

For my purposed it would also be useful to view Group memberships when looking at a Tab in the Company view.

It would not matter if there were duplicates of the Groups noted.

Can this be done (easily)?

Thanks in advance

J

Re: Getting Group 'membership' to show in a tab on Company view

Hi Donald,

Thanks for your quick and clear reply.

A 'display' of all the Group memberships for all the Contacts in a Company would work OK, especially if they could be sorted by Group/Event Description.  In fact at a glance you could get an idea of how many people from each company were in a Group which would be useful - we create Groups to organise events run by our organisation so this kind of data might be useful.

You mention that it would not take much work.  I presume that you are a developer, this being the Developer's Lounge, so could you give an idea of the cost please?  Thanks.

Best regards

Jonathan

Re: Getting Group 'membership' to show in a tab on Company view

Hi Jon.

An interesting question with not a straightforward answer. It all comes back to the core design of Act!.

Act! is a CONTACT relationship management system. When the groups functionality was designed, there was no such thing as Companies. They were developed out of Groups as I remember.

Thus, if you have a contact and you attach them to one or more groups, it is straightforward to display the one to many relationship. When it comes to Companies, you are then into a many to many relationship to display. Thus if you had five contacts in a company and each one was a member of multiple groups, you would have to show all groups and then manage the display of the contacts for each group.

It would not take a hugh amount of work to develop an add-on for this though.

Regards

Donald
