Re: Middle Pane

I would love to see a "Side-Pane" control; after all, most screens are wider than they are tall!

Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

Hey Alan, can you respond to this?  Do you have an update for middle pane to work with ACT 13.1.

Also, the side pane idea would be AWSOME

[ Edited ]

I'll take a look at compiling this against the Sage ACT! 2011 API's this weekend and also check to see if we can do a side panel dock versus a middle pane.  I suspect I can have the control dock wherever we want, but most of the tabs are designed for horizontal views rather than vertical.

I like the idea of a side docked tab panel - any objections if I do this as a separate control (we have a middle pane control and a side pane control to map tabs to)?

Re: Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

Alan, thanks again for your work on these!

Side Pane would be cool, but moreover, I tried installing middle-pane for a couple of ACT users, and only the computer savvy ones were comfortable using it.  Everyone else uninstalled it.  If you could fix these items, I believe it would more useable by the general public:

1) When you select a tab to appear in the control, make it stick, so its there the next time you open ACT.

2) the roll-over control, that allows you to resize the middle pane, (at the bottom of the middle pane) is very small and difficult to click on.  Make this at least as large as the other roll-over controls on ACT windows.

3) Restore the middle pane vertical size when you close/re-open ACT.  Currently you have to re-size it every time you open ACT.

P.S. I'm not having any issues running Middle Pane on 13.1.111.0 Hotfix1

no, I think a side pane control with the tabs lining up vertically would be awsome.  There is so much wasted horizontal space with today's wide monitors.

Better Yet, a side panel with a top and bottom pane.

Thanks allen

Re: Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

Is there a more current version if so where located in forum or download?

Details show act.devnet.MiddlePane.dll, Modified 5/9/2007 4:40pm, version 1.0.0.0

Running ACT Prem 13.1.111.0 HF2 and this Dll works fine on my Win7 64bit laptop.

Wondering if newer release offers smaller Horz. tab bar or way to change it in properties.

Also a way to prevent loosing the TAB dropped in if you at some time click on Horz. bar, closing ACT or switching between DB?

Hi Allen

Did you have any luck with the updates & side panel? The most often requested extra feature is that the panel is Sticky so the user does not have to redo each time they open ACT.

Re: Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

I've been corresponding with Gilles Calvin about this control - he's identified some instability in the control when moving multiple tabs.  I added some tracing in the code this weekend in an attempt to identify where the control is raising errors and I'll run through tests this week.

I understand Gilles has already incorporated some of the changes into  a version of this control he may make available through the Exponenciel offering.

Re: Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

Allen,

To understand the future of this DLL.  Are you stopping any new improvements and not post an update, rather just work with other developers like Gillies to develop this and allow them to post it for sale of free on his / their web sites?

Gillies has been great to work with since I own a few of his Apps and worked out some past bugs and added functions.

Keep us up to date even if you don't release an updated DLL.

Re: Middle Pane not working with ACT 2011

I'm committed to maintaining the controls, plugins, example projects etc... at a minimum in their current form for compatibility purposes in this forum.

These items serve 2 purposes - 1.  Solicit feedback for consideration in future control incorporation and development in core ACT!.  2.  Provide example code and ideas for ACC's and tech partners who wish to advance these concepts in their own add-on offerings.

If you have an interest in extending any of the code posted here and you require different licensing terms than what is posted in this forum, please let me know.

I'm often made aware of efforts by add-on or tech partners in parallel to these postings and in order to gain greater scale and feedback I offer to work with those partners who are advancing these samples in their own offerings, often times making an improved version of the sample available for free.

This control has been interesting - user feedback on this control has been mixed, and I've struggled to understand what features would increase appeal.  If Gilles can provide a version of the control that is appealing it would help us understand what features our users are looking for with something like this.
