Searching seems really badly indexed

I do a search for a person's name or company ... it brings up many unrelated records (maybe the word is in a Note?)

Really, it should have records with the search term in contact or company at the top of the list ... in face would do to only search those fields as those are most likely when mobile

Hello Mike,

A good work around is to use the customers last name.

Re: Searching seems really badly indexed

Thanks Mike. The below text and link  was from another post that was similar to what you have mentioned. I hope this helps out.

Keep in mind that the search bar looks into all contact fields on the contact record. So, for example if you entered in "Texas" you will get results for any contact that has the word "Texas" on any contact field, note or history.

Searching on the word "Texas" would bring back all three of the contacts below...

Joe Blow

ABC Company

Austin, Texas

Jane Smith

Texas BBQ Co.

Los Angeles, CA

Lance Parker

Yellow Jersey Bikes

Note: Lance is excited about his new Texas plant...

Re: Searching seems really badly indexed

Yes ... I do understand how it works, but understanding how a search is lousy doesn't make one appreciate the huge amount of extra time to perform simple functions like looking up someone's phone number to call them

I have about 400 contacts in Texas, two with Texas in the company name (but not located in the state) and one friend with the first name of Tex. How do I find Tex to call him?

Try removing all search options from ACT!, except Keyword (and remove the options to limit Keyword) and see how people scream.

I can only assume that the decision to go with way was designed by a developer who never uses ACT! to do real work

I've worked with a client and I've tried the last name lookup and that does not work, either.  Shows so many names that appear in appropriate. Company lookup barely works. Basically, unless this can mirror the effectiveness of the desktop, which it defintely doesn't, I think this will be difficult to promote.  The bar has been raised and it is difficult to get others to accept lowering it.  The notes and histories are a good function, though.

Re: Searching seems really badly indexed

Thank you for your feedback Mike L.  As with other betas we have had in the past, this forum allows us to share with the developers what you experience so that by the time of the release, we should have a pretty strong product. I think, mmorgan_d, you are right the notes/history function is great.

Your concerns are appreciated and have been shared.

Not really ... many of the bugs I pointed out with ACT! Mobile Live beta, more than THREE years ago, are still there in the current builds of Connect

Notes/Histories have been done by the third-party tools for over 10 years ... and all of them also handle country codes in phone numbers.
