Re: Outlook not properly configured

Thanks David,

I tried this once before from the knowledge database and it didn't work.  I tried it again deleting the entire key not just what was recommended(deleting 1,2 and 3) and the message states:

---------------------------
ACT!
---------------------------
The ACT! database cannot be found.  Please contact your administrator for assistance.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Anything else in that great brain? (absolutely no sarcasm, just kudos)

I thank you.  Please help.

Pat

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Have you tried detaching the database from SQL, deleting the .PAD file, then opening the database using the .ADF file? The detach is done through ACT! Diagnostics. That message may indicate that Outlook is unable to read or access the current .PAD file. Be sure to remove the ACT! address book from Outlook first. After you have reattached the database and the new .PAD file has been created, then re-add the address book.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Thanks for the answer!  I have two questions before I try your suggestion:

1) How do you reattach the database?

2) How do you recreate the .PAD file?

Thanks!

Re: Outlook not properly configured

Launching the database using the ADF file will attach the database to the SQL server and create a new PAD file.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

[ Edited ]

I followed everything that was required of me to see if I could get this back on track.  Unfortunately, the recommendations offered do not work and I am getting extremely nervous and upset.  I really depend on ACT! for quality of results and after 7.0, I was leery to ever try this software again.  I really really hope that this program is not starting to get me to the point of raising my blood pressure to an extremely high level again.

I need some help fixing this problem.  All the emails that have been passing through my Outlook system are not being recorded and it is extremely vital that this happens.  What is the reason that a power outage can cause such a problem?

Can someone please PLEASE help me with this.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I have a client that is having the same exact problem and receiving this error " The ACT! database cannot be found.  Please contact your administrator for assistance".

I was not able to register or unregister act8ext.dll or any other files and she is logged in as the administrator. Is it a problem with her Windows OS?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I ran into this for the first time tonight. When I disable the software firewall on the workstation hosting the database, everything works fine. I don't know enough yet to author a specific exception, but I'll let you know when I do.

Maybe somebody else can offer a clue?

John

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I figured out what was causing the error "The ACT! database cannot be found. Please contact your administrator for assistance.". My client recently upgraded from outlook 2003 to 2007 and has ACT! by Sage 11.01 on Vista. I found I was not able to register any .net files. So I went ahead and uninstalled ACT and .net in msconfig and reinstalled. Now it's working.

Re: Outlook not properly configured

I had the same problem. I clicked "yes" in the error message pop-up, which gave me a list of my databases that were connected to Outlook. I clicked the one that was the problem, then clicked the Edit button. It had put a bunch of asterisks for the password (I don't use a password to log on). I deleted the asterisks so there was nothing in the password box, saved, closed. It then told me I need to close and reopen Outlook for this to take effect. I did that, and voila! it worked! My suggestion, click the edit button and make sure it has the settings correct. Don't know why it wasn't correct. I use Outlook 2003 with ACT! 2009 on W7. It had been working just fine for many months so I don't know what made it stop working.
