Get Contact name and address into Word docs?

Is there any way I can get a contact name and address into a Word doc in one go? I have various Word doc standard form letters which I send to clients individually (that is, not a mail merge) in response to their enquiry. I want to use my contact details to address these letters.

Can this be done?

If they are 'standard doc form letters' why would you not simply create these documents as ACT! Word templates Graham, and run them under 'write', 'other document from template'?

Otherwise, you could find the Contact and (in detail view), click Ctrl+C and paste into the Word document (Ctrl-V). This would paste in the Contact's name and address detail. It might also pick up the phone number as well so you might have to carry out slight edits.

Hope this helps.

Re: Get Contact name and address into Word docs?

Hi Will,

Thanks for your helpful reply.

I guess I was trying to avoid recreating the docs as Act templates, although I've just had a bit of a play with that and it wouldn't be as much bother as I first thought. Most of it copy/pastes fairly well. Can' t find how to do a different header on following pages though. The rest of the company I represent are not on ACT, so I will continue to get the standard letter forms we use in Word.

Didn't know about ctrl-c in detail view, that's definitely handy, although it does need a bit of an edit depending on what you are using it for.

Meantime I figured another simple, and obvious in hindsight, work around. Just do a Write/Letter in the Contact Detail view, and then I can copy the name and address, complete with date, already edited, and paste into my Word form letter! Then cancel the Act letter. The only down side is that a Word letter does not automatically attach to the contact (unless it is an attachment to an email sent through Act) so I need to rember to do that manually.

Like your website, just 'met' you online! Appreciate your taking the time to look at my problem from the other side of the world - actually, my wife has family in Burton!

Cheers,

Graham.

Re: Get Contact name and address into Word docs?

Further to using Act Word Templates, I just created one to try out which looked good when I saved the template, but when I went to use it, it totally messed up the Header setting out. I tried several times, each time saving what looked good, but losing the layout when opening the template to use. Guess I will be sticking to Word for now, until I can afford a newer ACT!!!

Cheers,

Graham.
