I have to start it manually by clicking on act.outlook.services.exe I've looked in msconfig (startup) and in the services list in the control panel and it's not in either place.
Is there a setting in ACT preferences or a registry entry I should make?

Hello BizCoach,
If the service is not listed in the msconfig utility, you can try manually adding it startup via the registry.
- Open the registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
- Right-click on the Run key and select New > String Value
- Name the string value ACT Outlook Service, then for the value put "C:\Program Files\ACT\Act for Windows\Act.Outlook.Service.exe". Include the quotes
- Then start msconfig and you should see it under the Startup tab. Reboot your machine to have it take effect
If this does not work, then you will need to uninstall and reinstall ACT!.

Grieg-
I am running into a problem with a new install of Premium 2012 SP1 HF 6 where the Act.Outlook.service.exe is showing in msconfig in the startup tab, but is not showing in services. I have tried to manually start the service without success.
We are running a server based database with the slave machines sharing that database. All updates to the remote machines and the server are current.
Any suggestions on this problem?

Hello David,
That service would not show in the services list, but you should see in under the Processes tab in your Task Manager. If you finding that emails are not recording in ACT! history, then this Knowledgebase article has some additional suggestions:

Based on you saying that it will show up in the Processes, it appears that it is just not recording. The problem appears to be on server and all clients
