ACT V7 (2005) converting to ACT 2013

Have a customer using ACT V7 (2005), they have upgraded to ACT 2013 but we are stuggling to get the data in and working.

Everything I've read says this version of database should just open in 2013, but whether a fresh install or an inplace upgrade the V7 database will not update / convert.  We have tried backing up and doing a restore but again same issue, the database will create but will not update.  The error received is Exceptions occurred while executing the database schema update script.

We did wonder if it was because the user had been running V7 on Windows 7 and with Office 2010 (all unsupported) but have created a brand new database in V7 on a Windows XP machine and get exactly the same problem.  Have also tested with ACT 2012, same problem again.

Just in case any relevance the databases also couldn't be backed up, we found the issue / fix for this was to do with files within the ACT attachment folder contained illegal chars, copying the contents of the attachment folder out of the way, the database backs up.  The illegal char was a dash.

Any advice / guidance greatfully received.

Some basics: disabled UAC or 'run as administrator'?

Have you tried creating a new database with ACT! 2013? If it won't create a new database, there may be an issue with the SQL Server installation.

Re: ACT V7 (2005) converting to ACT 2013

Greg

Thanks for the response.  We've got around it by doing Restore As in V8 from V7 backup, these create and update all ok.  We then backup and again do a Restore As withing 2013.  I know a bit of a fiddle but also gives us the chance to tidy up database names etc., customer has used some very bizarre and misspelt names.

Regards

Debbie
