I'm curious which features you're referring to.

Re: How to install ACT 5 or 6 in Windows 7 64-bit

Hi Barsaati,

I have ACT 6.0.3 running great under Win 7 x64.... BUT the word processor does not. Neither ACT's own nor MS Word

( I use Word 2002 part of Small Business XP)  when I point to that in preferences.

Word is offered in the preferences > general > word processor alterantives drop down. So I fugure ACT has found my installation of MS word but the link appears missing when I try to write a letter and I get Word Processor not found reports.

Have you a word processor running and if so did you do anything special to enable it?

(Tried to find ruggb original post but could'nt).

Thanks.

Re: How to install ACT 5 or 6 in Windows 7 64-bit

Hi ruggb,

I have ACT 6.0 running great  in Win 7 x64 by the route you posted. BUT the link to MS Word is not working. I have Office Small business XP - Word 2002 installed.

When I try to write a letter ACT reports word processor not found. Ditto ACT's own word processor.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Roy,

BTW cannot get rid of te strikethrough....

I want to retain the autodialer and i like being able to read correspondence from the history panel without recourse to different windows/actions other than a double click. Essentially paying for an upgrade did not make sense given two key benefits, for me, would be missing.

I am assuming u have the preferences set for one or the other wp.

It sounds like the links are broken, but check this

this will verify that the ACT WP is in the right place and works.

ACTWP.WPI is the ACT wp program.

open Windowz Explorer

rt clk the ACT program folder while holding SHIFT

select OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE

type ACTWP.WPI <enter>

If the ACT wp doesn't open then somehow it didn't get installed.

IF it does open then a link is broken somewhere. [which make the most sense because neither wp will open]

Either way it may get fixed if u uninstall and reinstall ACT.

Or u could try to find the file or broken link.

BTW my ACT WP does operate from within ACT so it has to be an installation issue.

I have W7 x64 ultimate and ACT 6.0.3

Re: How to install ACT 5 or 6 in Windows 7

Hi ruggb,

Thanks for coming back...

running the command brings up the ACT word processor.

Tried a re-install to C:\ (previously I had re-installed to F:\ where I normally put my apps) but neither location worked. Or more correctly the word processor didn't fire up from within ACT.

I had concluded it was a link issue but frankly have no idea where to start on that one. I did move the ACT dll's drvact32.dll & rcdrvact32.dll to Office10 folder but that didn't work.

I am not getting a 'maybe permissions problem' report any more. But still get the ACT 'failed to connect to the word processor' and 'word processor driver not running' messages.

Have you any more clues or input.

Many, many thanks.

I have to disagree. Starting with ACT! 3 and running through ACT! 6, the ACT! word processor didn't operate from within the ACT! program but through registry links the same a when using Word as the word processor for ACT! 6. The problem points to registry issues.

Roy

Sorry, but I was trying to relate to someone I perceived as not extremely computer literate and help troubleshoot the issue.

I was also leaving open the opportunity for someone who knows to post the answer. Do you know someone who might?

If u have the answer as to where the links are in the registry then PLEASE tell the OP how to fix it.

There is no need to tell me something I am perfectly aware of. When I look into my ACT reg backup I do not find ACTWP.WRI.

And since I do not have the problem and never did I cannot find it for the OP.

BTW - to "operate from within the program" means that when one clicks on WRITE/LETTER - "within" the ACT program - the WP opens.

thanks
