So I'm trying to migrate out of 4.0 due to lack of email & XP sp2 compatibility.
I'm an earhtlink user since 97. (Mindspring stepchild)
4.0 & previous versons have been rock solid for me-
I wanted to stop using outlook was one of the reasons for my switch.
I'm in an experimental stage with a 6.2 build and have transfered of just short of 7k contacts-
Isn't internet mail less resource consuming if I use it?
I take it there are no patches to fix this problem from what I've read-
So where can I get a list of what email providers that will work using acts internet mail. Or what provider are you using with success using the internet mail option?
You help is appreciated!
PS- How much processor & memory does 6.0 really run smooth on - I'm experimenting this set up on a Athalon 900 mhz & about 750k of ram

I'll answer the Internet email question - you can use any provider that can supports POP3/SMTP on their default ports of 110 for POP3 and 25 for STMP.
If your ISP requires you to use SSL for authentication, or if your provider uses different POP3/SMTP ports, or if your provider supports IMAP but not POP3, then you will not be able to get Internet email to work out of the box. There is a third party product that can help with the changed ports - I've seen it mentioned in these posts by Michael Lazarus in the past.

Thanks for the reply Cheif-
Has any one used the port redirctector ? Is it cost efficient & Low resource use-?
My attempt to upgrade from 4.0 has been a catious & slow one- my 4.0 has treated me so well-
I knda just need to know what does work- I've already wrestled with the port thing-
So I figure ACT 6.0 buit internet net mail - SO it works with what providers?

This is the post I did on the port redirector:
If it's only a port change, it should work... but some ISPs also use new authentication methods or SSL that ACT!'s Internet Mail can't use.
Most users have the best experience with Outlook... it's a more functional email client. ACT! 6.0 does work with Outlook 2000-2003 better than 4.0 (although not as fully integrated as the current versions), so this may still be a better option for you.
Also, you mention ACT! 6.2 (I assume 6.02) - you should get 6.03 from http://www.act.com/support/updates/index.cfm?
6.0 should be ok in 750MB RAM (depending on the size of the database)

Thanks, actually I had come accross- your info in searches-
Yes I meant 6.02 is that 6.03 update all I need? there are some others- Hotfixes yadda?
My DB is approaching 7k contacts -
I am a little perplexed as to no one chiming in indicating that have used internet mail successfully ?
My allegegence to Act is very strong it has served me very well & I actually feel indebeted - I would hate to ruin that relationship by the 6.0 problems-
Out look email seems very sluggish- should it stay open? Minumized?
I currently have #2 6.0 licenses- But I must proceede cautiously-
Thanks for your input & expertise-
