Act 4.0 on Windows 7, which new version of Act do you recommend I buy and install

Dear Act community,

I have been and am a loyal user of Act 4.0 since about 1999 or so. The software has always worked great

in all versions so I never bothered upgrading to a newer version of Act.

Well, now, of course, Act 4.0 won't load on my new Windows 7.0 PC, and I tried everything from

compatibility mode issues to running as administrator.

I have all of my act files saved seperately on a directory (in DBF) and, is it possible for me to

purchase and install the newest version of act, and then, OPEN that ACT DBF file? Will it work automtiaclly?

Any help is deeply appreciated,

Thanks!

Re: Act 4.0 on Windows 7, which new version of Act do you recommend I buy and install

Dear Mike,

Thank you!

Is it easier to upgrade from Act 4.0 to Act 6.0, or, will the new Act 2012 open that DBF file the same that Act 6.0 would?

Re: Act 4.0 on Windows 7, which new version of Act do you recommend I buy and install

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I really appreciate it.

So, just to make sure, I have 2 users (1 user on an XP machine and one user on the new windows 7 machine).

The DBF file and directory of data will be stored on the XP machine, in which the windows 7 machine through the network

access that directory (just like I do with Act 4.0)

Do I need to buy Act 2012 for 2 users? If so, what is the exact url for that software to buy 2012 ?

i see a premium and pro version, what is better?

Thanks again so much for your help!

David

The database (ADF for ACT! 2012) should be on the fastest machine

You need one license per user - Pro is probably fine for you

I usually recommend getting it from an ACT! Consultant - www.act.com/acc

Hi Mike,

Thnanks agin!

I will look into that today.

Last question, does the contact layout (i have a file called datacenter.cly) also import into the new version of act

or is that something I will need to recreate?

It's a separate conversion but it will convert.

Hi Roy,

Is there an article for the conversion of the cly file from act 4.0 to act 2012?

What menu in act 2012 can I use for that?
