When you say "hangs", what actually happens?
Does the app freeze for the Web users?
How about if you access it on the server?

Does it happen at the same time each day?

What else is running on the server?

Do you have multiple database? Can you add the demo database to the Web and see if it can be accessed after the main one stops?

Hi,

Sorry its taken so long to reply, I only just checked the post again, I thought I'd ticked the 'email me if someone replies' option, but I didn't get any notification of your reply.

When I say hang, I mean the users can't do anything with the web version, they click on links, but no pages load, eventually they get a page can not be displayed error. If they then try to go back to the login page, it spends agaes trying to load, then just bombs out with the page not found error again. If you check the event log on the web server there are uaually loads of event id 77 messages & event id 1309. Today, up to 11:30 am, we've received 7 event id 77s in an hour, and 9 event id 1309s, in a 15 minute period.

This just seems to affect web users, we only have 1 user with the proper ACT desktop application, but he seems unaffected. It happens all day, usually 4 - 5 times a day, so its difficult to pin down if its the sametime, but according to the users its completly random. We only have 1 database, which is our main contact database, and its not huge, I think the actualy database file is 20 - 30mb.

Server is running Windows 2003 SP2, and the Windows Software Update Services web site, which isn't exactly a web site since v3 replaced WSUS v2. I'll have to test with the demo database, if it still exists, one of the Sales managers may have deleted it while performing a clean up.

Do all users crash at the same time?

You might try one of these:
You may need to use the IIS crash/hang agent to troubleshoot the error & see what's causing the crash.

You could also check your IIS & HTTPErr logs around the time of the crash to see if something is happening, maybe a dos attack or something else.

Re: ACT! for Web 2007 Hangs with Event ID 8095f1ad09e64b1f9a96336e293df10f

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply again.

I made a change to the registry on Friday, and so far today we've only had 1 crash, which is an improvement. I had to add write permission for the ASP.NET account to HKLM\Software\AspNetProcess\ASPNET_SETREG (I found referance to this in some ACT! kb on the sage support site). However, we have still had 1 crash, which according to our user was when they were 'trying to access notes via edit function whilst looking at a record in a Group contact list'. Apparently the site crashed for them, but other users were still able to work. At the time it crashed this event appeared in the event log:

I looked in the log files, in the IIS logs the last log entry is:
2008-03-31 14:32:56 W3SVC1 192.168.1.5 GET /APFW/Javascript/JS.ASPX - 443 - 192.168.1.34 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.0.04506.30;+.NET+CLR+3.0.04506.648;+InfoPath.1) 200 0 0

This was logged at 14:32:56, the Eventlog ID is at 14:36:08. No other log entries after that. Looking in the HTTPErr directory, there hasn't been a log entry since 17th March 08.

I took a look at those Microsoft KBs, but I'm not sure how valid they are:
kb894435 is for switching between 32 & 64 bit versions of ASP.NET on a 64bit system. We're just running on a 32bit system.
kb823596 is an error for when the IIS Admin Service Quits Unexpectedly, but I don't think in our case the IIS Admin service is quitting at all, as the other site on the server is running OK (I forgot that Communicator Web Access also runs on this server).
kb930952 is when the inetinfo.exe process falls over in a cluster environment, which we're not running, but even if we were, I don't think the inetinfo process is terminating.

From reading the Eventlog error, it seems to be more something to do with ACT! or the code behind it. The error states the following:

Exception information:
Exception type: ArgumentOutOfRangeException
Exception message: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.

I can only assume that there is some value, or argument, that the code hasn't been programmed to account for!?

If this is only a one-off, I wouldn't worry to much... glitches can occur in web applications sometimes.

Give it a while and see how it goes.

Thos MS KBs can also sometimes work on the errors you were having, but the ASP security can also cause them... and it looks like you've resolved that
