Hi,
I'm trying to help myDad who cannot install the MS SQL update (KB955706). I suspect that it is linked to ACT!3.0.2 which he has installed, (though it could be any of a number of other clashes).
Does anyone know a) whether this is likely to be the problem, or b) how to get aorund it. I can only see advice for ACT! back to version 6 or so.
Thanks,
NCharman

Hi, My Dad has ACT!3 installed under windows XP, and has been using it for years. It mostly works fine. However the latest Windows update won't load. Looking through the forums I see problems with the SQL update assocuated with ACT! I suspected that this is the culprit on my Dad's computer as well.
The update doesn't give any obvious reason why it fails to install. To answer the previous post - it's ACT! 3.0.2 and it's installed on Windows XP, just for his own use.
I just wondered if anyone could shine a light on how I might get around the problem, but it sounds like it's fairly old, and not going to be easy to fix.

The KB955706 error would be related to something in SQL 2005 ... ACT! didn't use SQL 2005 till ACT! 2007 (9.0)
As to ACT! 3.0, it'll be largely luck to get it to run under XP without corrupting it's own database.XP was supported in a patch which came out after ACT! 5.0
Certainly 3.02, which got free patches to 3.08 before it became stable on Win95

OK, thanks Mike.
I'll look at what we can do about that.
